Kanstanty Ildefans Halchynski (1905–1953) was one of the most important Polish lyric poets of the 20th century.
A playwright, prose writer, and translator, but above all a poet. An experimenter and provocative absurdist, a subtle humorist and sharp satirist, a master of ironic phantasmagoria, the creator of lyrical miniatures and large-scale poems. A refined erudite and at the same time a “people’s” poet, known to every Polish reader.
Over the years he was an avant-gardist, a surrealist, and a socially engaged author, yet he always remained a brilliant poet.
