Сяржук Сыс

He was born in the village of Zaspa, Rechytski district, on January 26, 1962.

Poet, human rights defender and journalist.

In 1979, he entered the Faculty of History and Philology of the Gomel University. He studied with Ales Bialiatskyi, Eduard Akulin, Anatoly Sys. Taught Belarusian language and literature. He worked as a journalist in many Belarusian publications and in advertising campaigns.

He made his debut in the central press in 1986 with a collection of poems in the magazine “Maladość”. Published in national and foreign publications; author of numerous collective collections and anthologies, as well as books of poetry “Za trapiatkim matylkom kachannia” (2000), “Stremka” (2011), “Pawuk” (2014) and “DOM” (2024). Winner of the “Zalaty apostraf” award (2008), winner of the Minsk One Poem Festival (2009). The works were translated into dozens of European languages. Member of the Union of Belarusian Writers, the Belarusian Association of Journalists and the Belarusian PEN.
