Anna Świrszczyńska was a Polish poet, playwright, and prose writer, also known for children’s literature.
She began publishing poems in the 1930s and studied Polish literature at the University of Warsaw. During World War II she joined the Polish Resistance and served as a nurse in the Warsaw Uprising.
After the war, she lived and worked in Kraków, where she continued her literary career.
Her work addresses themes such as war experiences, the female body, and everyday life, and she became one of the first Polish women poets to speak openly about women’s perspectives.
